A solo show by V.Ramesh ( the exhibition includes significant paintings done from 2003 to 2013 ) Among the more challenging and engaging artists working in India today is V Ramesh, whose recent works titled "Remembrances of Voices Past", will be on view (from February-March 2014) in the first ever one person show to be hosted by the prestigious NGMA, Bengaluru. The exhibition will be supported by Threshold Art Gallery, New Delhi.
Born in 1958, V Ramesh lives and works as an artist and teacher- at the Faculty of Fine Arts-in Vishakhapatnam. Painting primarily with oils on large scale canvas formats, his oeuvre has through the years consistently revealed a preoccupation with a meditative terrain that explores the relationship between states of transcendence and the ramifications of culture and personal experience.
With "Remembrances......", the poetics of the artist's painterly vocabulary continue to suggest his ruminations upon saint poets of the past, his engagement with their writings and with their philosophies. A sense of effulgence permeates the work even as he explores the essence of his materials, conflating layers of organic colors or leaching them away into diaphanous screens that reveal or gently insinuate low resolution images and inscriptions, their shifting textures and matrices at once recognizable yet mysterious, the images invariably resonant with cultural memory. Simultaneously, the painter's ability to to make each mark/stroke a conscious unit of sublimated feeling, even as refrentiality is retained, gives to these works their unforgettable contemplative power.
